The fourth dawn of 2010 mirrors the piercing, brilliant light of the 10th trecena, the Trecena of 1 Etznab. Etznab, sharp black Obsidian, cuts through the multitudinous veils we live wrapped up in, through the layers of misperception, fear and misinterpretation that our social and media conditioning continues to hypnotize us with, through the fog that surrounds the clarity, potential and truth of our souls.
The challenge of this Trecena is to stand before the mirror of your soul unclad and unfettered by fear, uncertainty, weakness or falsehood of any kind. Have the courage to look directly into your heart, body and mind, without judgment, without opinion, without comparison. Breathe deep and long through your life’s journey, recognize that which still needs attention or improvement and rejoice in that which you have made strong.
There is no journey like the search for personal truth.
Join us on the daily journeys of each Trecena, online at Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. Write to us or send in your Mayan Calendar Story, let us know how these sacred energies resonate with you.
Late last year, we asked you to review SONY Pictures' action movie "2012"—and you responded. Citizen movie reviews came pouring in, and we are now preparing a communication to the filmmakers. This time however, we have a very different film for you to review: "Avatar" by James Cameron. We have heard many positive reactions in our community to the film and its message of love and respect for life winning over human greed and violence. Many people are going to see it twice.
Whether Avatar inspires you or leaves you skeptical, we want to hear from you. It's important to tell Hollywood not to mislead the public about 2012, but it's even more important to tell the film industry when they get a story right. That's why your opinion of Avatar matters. It may not be related to the Mayan calendar, but its message mirrors that embedded in the sacred Calendar: to live in unity with the natural world and with ourselves.
To submit your review, just fill out the online form we've created. All reviews will be sent to director James Cameron and 20th Century Fox. So take this opportunity to communicate directly with Hollywood, and make your voice heard!
In the Tzolk’in, the equivalent of January 1, 2010 was simply another day in the Chicchan Trecena: 11 Men. But for countless populations around the world, the tradition of celebrating the New Year in the Gregorian calendar retains its powerful cultural hold. It’s a time for parties, special foods, parades, light shows and fireworks, parades, and of course lots of champagne and confetti.
Without taking away from any of the celebratory joy surrounding the transition of the New Year, let us remember that natural time is cyclical, not the linear deadline-driven race that modern society imposes, and “resolutions” should be daily journeys or moments of awareness and action rather than the typically short-lived annual effort to improve ourselves.
On behalf of all of us at the Mayan Calendar Portal, we wish you and your families and loved ones a joyous New Year, a blessed Etznab Trecena, and an infinite string of fulfilled “now” moments.
